Hi,

At the CRA Annual Meeting we proposed and the Delegates unanimously agreed to permit CRA to join with the Chevron Employees Recreation Association in offering a Discount Hearing Aid Program through Hear In America (HIA). All CRA members and their families are eligible for the Program.

The Program is being made available since hearing aids are not a covered expense under Medicare or under most private insurance plans. The full cost of a hearing aid can be as much as $5,000.

HIA is able to offer discounts on hearing aids that range from 30% to 50% for top of the line hearing aids which are produced by nine major manufacturers. (The discounted prices range from $750 to $2,775 per instrument.) In addition to the discounts, they also offer: free hearing screenings, a 45 day trial period, a three year warranty, a three year supply of batteries, free maintenance for the life of the hearing aid, and financing. Best of all, the services and visits are provided by a hearing center near the individual’s home.

HIA is an independent organization which has been in business since 1995. They are staffed by licensed and experienced hearing instrument specialists that liaise with hearing centers. They strive to provide personalized service. Presently, HIA represents 34 associations with more than four million members. HIA is not affiliated with any health insurance provider.

In order to take advantage of the Program, a member will need to enroll with HIA. There isn’t an enrollment fee, a premium or a service charge. A member can enroll on line at www.hearinamerica.com or by phone at 1-800-286-6149. HIA’s hours are 9:00 AM to 5:15 PM, ET, Monday through Friday.

We are attaching a booklet which we prepared to help members better understanding the process of hearing, impediments to hearing and tips on purchasing hearing aids. The booklet is titled “Hearing – Tips and Helpful Information” and it will be posted on the CRA website, www.chevronretirees.org . In addition, HIA is printing brochures which can be made available for your Chapter meetings. As soon as the brochures are printed we will contact you.

We would appreciate if you could share the contents of this message, including the booklet, where possible, with your members. (The brochures are mainly intended for members who do not have access to the internet.)

Please let me know if you have any questions.

In closing, we would like to mention that the Discount Hearing Aid Program is just another way in which we are fulfilling our commitment to add value to CRA membership.

Regards,

Al
