Hi All,
Just a reminder, anyone who experiences a benefits problem or who has a question about their Chevron benefits should first contact either the Chevron HR Service Center (HRSC), Express Scripts (ESI), United Healthcare (UHC), United Concordia (UCCI) or other organization like a HMO. Which organization to contact will be dependent upon the issue. Generally, issues like eligibility, changes in personal information, changes in dependent coverage, changes in beneficiary designations and similar issues should be directed to the HRSC. All other issues should be directed to the provider company, like UHC, i.e. claim questions, coverage, etc.
Generally, each of the above mentioned organizations allows a telephone caller to take a survey to record the level of service that was provided by the representative for the organization. It would be most helpful to both Chevron and CRA if each caller could take the survey to register the level of service provided – either positive or negative. This allows us to better gauge the quality of service that is being offered.
Remember, if a member needs assistance with a benefits issue after attempting to resolve the problem with the outsource provider, they are free to contact me or a member of the Benefits Committee. When the Benefits Committee is contacted we will need a complete description of the problem, the actions/non-actions that were taken by the outsource provider, and the dates and names of the contacts at the provider. In addition we will need the full name of the retiree, their mailing address, their telephone number, their date of birth, their year of hire, their year of separation from the Company and the last four digits of the retiree’s Social Security Number. (Note, in the case of a widow(er) we will also need the last four digits of their SSN and the year of death of the retiree.)
I would appreciate if you could share this email with your members.
Please let me know if you have questions.
Thank you.
Regards,
Al

Some important tax information below from Al Horan, CRA Benefits Committee Chair.
Merry Christmas to you and your families.

Hi All,
I would like to share with you and your members a savings opportunity. The Federal Government approved a permanent change to the Internal Revenue Code that permits annual tax free distributions to charities from IRA’s. The maximum annual contribution is $100,000 and the distributor must be at least age 70 ½. The distributions count towards the required annual minimum distribution. The distribution lowers the tax payer’s gross income on their Federal tax return. A married couple who files a joint tax return can exclude up to $100,000 each provided the contributor is at least age 70 ½ and the distribution is made from their individual IRA. (That is a total of $200,000.) However, the amount of charitable distribution is not deductible as a charitable gift on the income tax return. This change in law only applies to Federal Income Tax. You will need to check with your State to determine how these charitable contributions are handled for the purpose of State income tax.
It is my understanding that Chevron Humankind will match IRA tax free distributions to qualifying charities for up to $3,000 per year. Please keep in mind that when you are ready to perform the match, you will need a valid statement of transfer as a receipt for your contribution or a copy of the cleared check (both front and back) for your contribution. If you have any questions please contact Skip Rhodes, Chair, Public Affairs for CRA. His phone number is 510-658-2129 and his email address is skip@skiprhodes.com.
Please notify your members of this change. A copy of this announcement was posted to CRA’s website www.chevronretirees.org .
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Al

Subject: Medicare Patients Being Held for Observation
To: U.S. Leadership Group, U.S. Chapter Presidents, Benefits Committee Members
From: Al Horan, Chair, Benefits Committee
Hi,
Recently, I’ve been hearing from our Medicare members about media releases or I’ve been helping them with claims for hospital expenses where they were held as outpatients for observation. To help our members better understand the handling of this type of claim, I prepared the attached article. (See below)
Also, at the recent Mid Year Meeting a member of our Leadership Group asked a Chevron representative if links are provided to Medicare’s formulary for medications. I wish to share with you that Chevron maintains a copy on their Retiree Benefits website, http://hr2.chevron.com/retiree/yourbenefits.asp.
I would appreciate if you could share this update with the members of your Chapters.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
